Our Sun come into existence about 4.5 billion years ago and it will stay alive for next 5 billion years more.

If we could open up the Sun, we would see layers of dense hydrogen gas millions of miles deep at its centre- core. The Sun gives light and heat energy by one of the violent reaction in the universe and that reaction is Nuclear Fusion. This specific reaction powers the Sun by Fusing two hydrogen atoms into one helium atom.
It actually hard to get two atoms to fuse two protons that have the same charge. The both protons are positively charged and so they want to repel each other. So how did they come close to each other ?
It needs a huge amount of energy and pressure to get close themselves to begin to fuse. This immense heat and pressure are generated by the invisible force of gravity. The Sun contains 99.8 % of all the matter in the solar system. This huge mass pulls the Sun together with unimaginable gravitational force.
Gravity squeezes the protons to get close enough together and the nuclear fusion happens. In this nuclear compactor, hydrogen atoms slammed together 100 million quadrillion quadrillion times each second. Some of these collisions are so powerful that atoms fuse releasing tremendous amount of energy. When the protons come together to bind, they lose a little bit of mass that gets converted to energy. Every second of every day, about 5 million tons of stuff is being converted to energy.
