According to Einstein speed of light is the limited speed in the universe. A particle can not move with the speed greater than the speed of light which is approximately 300000 km/second. Speed of light is the maximum speed of distributing any information.
The two major reasons which prove nothing can moves greater than the speed of light are-
The Causality Principle - This principle says that 'cause always precedes effect'. In simple words we can say that the effect is the result of an event 'cause'.Suppose today we see the explosion of a star in the form of light which is at a distance of million light years.What can assumption we conclude? Is today only this explosion happened? No,this explosion might happened one year back. We just get the information of explosion in the form of light which started travelling a distance and reaches us after one year. Light needs time to travel a distance.If it might happen that information is travelled faster then light,it will break the causality principle and it will be similar to see the process in the reverse order which indicate a time travelling in past.Thus nothing travel faster than light as it seems impossible to break the causality principle.
Mass of particle - In Higgs boson theory, it is explained that a particle gained mass if this will collide with 'higgs field'.Every particles start their life with no mass travelling with the speed of light until it gains it when they travelled through higgs field. If a massless particle travelling with speed of light collide with higgs field, it will gain mass and consequently the speed will decreases. If a massless particle travelling with speed of light do not collide with higgs field it remains massless and continued to travel with the highest possible speed of light. Thus we came to know that every particle needs to be massless as it had been in the beginning to travel with speed of light. Interaction of particles with higgs field restrict them to travel with speed lesser than the light.Only massless particle has the possible highest velocity of light.In modern science we have no such particle other then photons which constitute the light and travels with 300000 km/sec.
